Town Profile

Banbridge is a prosperous , vibrant and welcoming town with a reputation for quality and service that extends north and south of the border.

In recent years the town has seen significant investment from both the private and public sector resulting in a stylish and modern town centre with a beautiful public park at its heart.

Recent projects which have been completed are as follows:

  • 2009 - BANBRIDGE DEVELOPEMNT STRATEGY 2009 - 2015

Commissioned by Banbridge District Council and Bridgewater Park, the strategy set out a masterplan for the future development of Banbridge town centre. The document identified the need for the whole of Banbridge's renaissance to be developed and steered in a cohesive manner with full recognician of the work that has been done as a result of previous strategies. The challenges set out are the expansion and growth of the town's potential; the need to support business growth and innovation; and promotion of the town to new audiences and markets


 set out a plan of action for the improvement of the environment as well as identifying the best type of assistance for the business community.
 

  • 2000 - BANBRIDGE TOWN CENTRE REGENERATION COMPANY FORMED

Banbridge Community Regeneration was formed  to bring together and offer support for the business community to promote Banbridge as a prefered location for shopping, business, leisure and tourism. A town centre manager was appointed in 2002 to oversee Environmental improvement projects, marketing campaigns and business development projects.
 

  • 2001 - 2005 BANBRIDGE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT SCHEME
  • 2007 SOLITUDE PARK REFURBISHMENT

Solitude Park and the river Bann are both located in the heart of Banbridge town centre. In 2007 the Council invested £2million in a major redesign of the town centre, creating a beautiful space for all of the local community to use. Work included new walks through the park, a riverside viewing deck, the creation of an ampitheatre for outdoor events, an enhanced play park, public art and new public ammenities and wardens office.

  • 2007 GATELODGE MEMORIAL PARK CREATED

On the site of the old hospital and Banbridge workhouse a memorial garden has been created.  

  • 2009 - BANBRIDGE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY 2009 - 2015

featuring commemorative sculpture and historic interpretation In 2008, a review of the projects identified within the Vision Document of 2000 was carried out and  it  was clear that many of the projects had been completed. Banbridge had made considerable progress and there was a need to build on this progress through the creation of a new development stragy to lead the town into the future. The new strategy identifies key prioities for the future development of the town including opportunity sites for growth,  new town centre connections,
